Black marble protection
On Nero Marquina and other black marbles, an etch shows as a pale, cloudy patch that is impossible to miss. The film stops it forming in the first place.
Why black marble is different
Nero Marquina is a Spanish marble: deep black, with fine white veins. It is still calcium carbonate, so acid still eats into the surface. On white marble an etch is a faint dull spot. On black marble it is a grey-white mark that shows every glass ring and lemon drip.
Water spots and cleaning-spray residue can show more on dark stone too, so a smooth, protected surface is easier to keep looking uniform.
Living with black marble
Nero Marquina’s deep black with bright white veins is one of the most striking looks in stone. It suits moody kitchens, powder rooms and bar areas. It is also the least forgiving marble to live with unprotected.
On dark stone, every etch reads as a grey-white ghost: glass rings, lemon drips and the outline of a spray bottle. Water spots and fingerprints are more visible too. Owners of unprotected black marble often end up restoring it far sooner than they expected.
Film keeps the polished surface even and deep, and ordinary wiping keeps it looking uniform.

That is usually etching. Acid has roughened the polished surface so it scatters light. It needs restoring before it is filmed.
