This warranty applies to the surfaces listed on your invoice, at the address where they were installed, once that invoice has been paid in full.
02 Your rights under Australian Consumer Law
Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.
Our services come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. For major failures with the service, you are entitled to cancel your service contract with us and to a refund for the unused portion, or to compensation for its reduced value. You are also entitled to be compensated for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. If the failure does not amount to a major failure, you are entitled to have problems with the service rectified in a reasonable time and, if this is not done, to cancel your contract and obtain a refund for the unused portion of the contract.
The benefits this warranty gives you are in addition to your rights and remedies under Australian law. Nothing in this document takes those rights away or limits them.
03 What is covered
For 13 years from installation, where the surface has been used normally and cared for as set out in section 05, we cover:
- Lifting, peeling or delamination. The film separating from the stone.
- Bubbling or blistering. Air or fluid appearing under the film after installation.
- Cracking, crazing or splitting of the film that was not caused by an impact or a cut.
- Loss of adhesion at edges, seams and cut-outs, including around sinks and cooktops.
- Yellowing or clouding of the film that is clearly visible in normal indoor light at normal viewing distance.
- Loss of stain resistance. The film failing to keep common household substances out of the stone, where the spill was wiped up within a reasonable time. This includes wine, coffee, tea, oil, vinegar, citrus juice, soft drink and common food colourings.
- Loss of heat resistance below the rated 250°C.
- Workmanship. Visible seams, trapped dust or debris, lifted edges, or cuts that are not straight or not aligned. Workmanship claims must be raised within 30 days of installation, because these are visible on handover.
04 What is not covered
This warranty covers the film and our work on it. It does not cover the stone underneath, and it does not cover damage caused by something other than a fault in the film or in our installation. Specifically, it does not cover:
- The stone itself, or any condition present before we started, including existing etching, staining, chips, cracks, pitting, previous sealers or coatings, and repairs done by others.
- Impact damage. Dropped or knocked items, chips, dents and the cracking that follows them.
- Cuts, scratches, gouges and abrasion, including cutting directly on the surface or dragging heavy or sharp objects across it.
- Heat above 250°C, direct flame, or cookware placed on the film straight from a stove, oven or barbecue.
- Unsuitable cleaning products. Abrasive pads or powders, steel wool, bleach, oven cleaner, drain cleaner, paint stripper, acetone, turpentine, and solvent-based or strongly acidic or alkaline cleaners.
- Other trades and building work. Damage from tools, equipment, paint, adhesives, grout or renovation work on or near the surface after we leave.
- Building movement. Settlement, subsidence, or movement in the substrate or cabinetry beneath the stone.
- Water reaching the stone from behind, below or through the substrate, including plumbing leaks and failed silicone.
- Work by others. Any alteration, repair, recoating, polishing or attempted removal of the film by anyone other than Stone Shield Sydney.
- Events outside our control, including fire, flood, storm, earthquake and vandalism.
- Deliberate damage, misuse or neglect.
- Normal wear consistent with the age of the installation and how hard the surface is worked.
- Natural change in the stone. Stone is a natural material and its colour and appearance can shift over time. That is a property of the stone, not a fault in the film.
- Surfaces not listed on your invoice.
- Surfaces we advised against in writing and treated anyway at your request.
05 Looking after your surface
There is no resealing schedule and no special product to buy. Day to day:
- Clean with a soft cloth and warm water, or a pH-neutral cleaner.
- Wipe spills up within a reasonable time rather than leaving them overnight.
- Use a board for cutting and a trivet or mat for hot cookware.
- Avoid the products listed in section 04.
- Do not use the surface as a workbench for tools, paint or chemicals.
To be clear about how we apply this: we will not refuse a claim because of a small or occasional departure from these instructions. We will refuse a claim where the damage was actually caused by not following them.
06 How to make a claim
- Tell us within 30 days of noticing the problem, by phone on 0450 200 382 or by email to jonahharmes55@gmail.com.
- Include your name, the installation address, roughly when the work was done, a description of the problem, and photographs if you can take them.
- We will reply within 5 business days and, where an inspection is needed, arrange to attend within 15 business days.
- Give us reasonable access to the surface so we can inspect it.
Making a claim costs you nothing. We pay for the inspection, the travel and any covered repair. If a surface can only be reached by removing fixtures, appliances or plumbing, we will tell you before any work starts and agree with you who arranges and pays for that.
07 What we will do
Where a claim is covered, we will repair the affected area, or remove and re-apply film to the affected surface, at no cost to you for materials or labour. Which of those we do is our choice, made reasonably, based on what will give you the better result.
If the exact film is no longer manufactured, we will use the closest equivalent of at least the same standard and tell you before we proceed.
A repair or replacement does not restart the 13 years. The original installation date still applies.
If we decide a claim is not covered, we will tell you in writing and explain why. You are welcome to ask us to quote for the repair as ordinary paid work.
08 Transferring this warranty
If you sell the property, this warranty transfers once to the new owner at no cost. The new owner needs to email us within 60 days of settlement with the property address and the approximate installation date, and we will confirm the transfer in writing. If we are not told within that period, the warranty ends on the sale.
09 Limits of this warranty
This warranty applies only to the surfaces listed on your invoice, at the address where they were installed, and only once that invoice has been paid in full.
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, such as loss of income or the cost of alternative arrangements while a repair is carried out. Our liability under this warranty is limited to repairing or replacing the film as set out in section 07. Nothing in this paragraph limits or excludes any right you have under the Australian Consumer Law.
This warranty is governed by the law of New South Wales.

We would rather explain something twice than have you agree to something you are not sure about.
