Generic films vary a lot, so there is no single set of numbers to compare. Instead, this is what we put in writing and what to ask any other installer to put in writing.

Ask what it is rated to
A film that is not rated for heat can bubble, cloud or mark under a hot pot. Ours is rated to 250°C and the rating is in our warranty.

Count the cost of doing it twice
Removing a failed film and fitting a new one costs more than doing it once. Cheaper up front is not cheaper overall.
Red flags
Signs to walk away.
No written warranty, or one they will only show you after you pay.
No heat rating, or a vague “heat resistant” with no temperature attached.
Hardware-store vinyl or contact film. It is generally made for shelves and craft, not for hot cookware on stone.
No samples on your stone. A good installer will show you the finish on your own surface before you commit.
A price that seems too good. Film and skilled labour cost money, so a very low quote usually means something is being left out.
Are all stone protection films the same?
No. Clear films can look similar on the day, but they differ in heat rating, how they hold up over time, and what the warranty covers. Always ask for the heat rating and the full warranty in writing.
Can I use car paint protection film on my benchtop?
Car paint protection film is designed for car paint, not stone benchtops that face hot cookware, acids and daily cleaning. Ask any installer what their film was designed for and what it is rated to.
Is a cheaper film worth it?
Sometimes a cheaper quote is fine. Compare the heat rating, the warranty length and what the warranty covers, not just the price. Removing a failed film and installing a new one costs more than doing it right once.
